Welcome to Arcade UFO, Austin's newest and only coin-operated video arcade.
Arcade gaming is an important part of our culture. We firmly believe that Austin both needs and deserves a good arcade, and that's exactly what we're here to provide. In fact, our goal is to build something legendary.
There’s no doubt about it–Gundam vs Gundam: Next is the most intricate iteration yet of the long-running arcade series. Arcade UFO is the only arcade in the United States with this insanely popular Japanese title. Not only do we run it in its 2-versus-2 player glory with four full game cabinets, but it’s now also the most valuable play-per-credit in the entire world.
Most Japanese arcades operate this title at 100 yen ($1.11) per play, with select arcades running it at 50 yen (56 cents) per play. We have lowered the price on Gundam vs Gundam: Next to 50 cents, which means you’re paying over 50% less on average than those chumps in the Far East.
What are you waiting for? Get over here and see why this title has consistently remained within the Top 2 most popular arcade titles of Japan since its release!
I don’t often use this blog to ask for favors based on my personal preference, but I want to point you guys to something I think is really important. The last fighting game for Evolution 2010, America’s largest fighting game tournament, is up to a Player’s Choice, meaning whichever game gets the most votes wins.
I know this is a very hard decision, considering titles such as Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and Capcom vs SNK 2 are all choices and these titles have all been staples in previous Evo tournaments. However, the Melty Blood community has been rallying for years to have their game featured as an Evo title, and I think it’s time to give this community a chance with the other heavy hitters.
NEC X, a national fighting game tournament in Philadelphia, recently received over 80 signups for Melty Blood: Actress Again! This is a thriving community that really deserves a chance on the Evo stage.
Cast your vote below (shoryuken.com account required). The poll is open until this Saturday, February 6th.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo (henceforth: ST), known in Japan as Super Street Fighter II X, is a game we actually had on the floor for a while around this same time last year. It only saw brief floor time, but more importantly, it never got a true Japanese head-to-head setup like our other featured fighters.
ST was the last Street Fighter II title released in the 90’s before Capcom branched out into the Alpha series and the originally ill-received Street Fighter III series. In the community, it is still known as the definitive Street Fighter II. Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix was released last year and breathed some more life into this title, giving it exposure to new blood, but to be perfectly honest, we think HD Remix stinks compared to the original.
Come give ST a go in its purest form, a full head-to-head arcade setup, and show everyone that you weren’t just that kid that could beat all your friends on the SNES controller. Oh yeah, it’s just 25 cents if you needed any more convincing.
Arcade UFO’s 2nd SF4 Ranbat has drawn to a close, and Sinister-X from San Antonio has claimed his second victory with Dhalsim! Will the locals be able to step it up and stop him before the next event?
Now for sale at Arcade UFO are a very limited stock of data cards for DJ Max Technika! These cards feature a special edition artwork, and we were the only arcade in the US to procure these gems! Using one of these cards when playing DJ Max will give you access to Platinum Crew come December, an online server that will allow you to access your private data, game save data, ranking services, tournaments, events, point shops and more at the Platinum Crew website.
We should get more cards in the future, but this will be the only run of cards in the country featuring this artwork. Grab one before they’re all gone . . .
We’re open on Thanksgiving Day, of course. What better way to follow up your turkey dinner than a round of DJ Max?
The highly anticipated sequel to Blazblue: Calamity Trigger, arguably the most beautiful 2D game ever created, has hit shore here in Austin! Released Friday, Nov. 20th in Japan, Arcade UFO was one of the only enthusiasts in the West to secure a copy on launch.
Continuum Shift brings two new characters to the roster, Hazama and Tsubaki Yayoi. Hazama’s drive, “Ouroboros”, allows him to summon chains from his body. Tsubaki’s unique drive, called “Install”, powers up all of her special moves.
The all-new character artwork has a distinct manga/anime oriented style, and all backgrounds have been completely redrawn. The play style seems to have shifted more towards the Guilty Gear series. Bursting no longer makes your character take extra damage for the remainder of the round; it’s just a combo-breaker. Barrier gauge and guard breaking have been separated. Most importantly, damage has been drastically reduced overall so that the rounds have a much more methodical pace. These changes should yield a more balanced game than Calamity Trigger.
Continuum Shift also adds a much-welcomed Training Mode for learning new things with your character. To access this mode after inserting a coin, at the title screen, hold the C and D buttons together and press Start!
